Newcastle United were beaten 5-0 by Leicester City in their latest outing.
Newcastle have tended to operate in a 5-3-2 formation so far this season, but Bruce went with 4-4-2 against Leicester.
The plan backfired, as Newcastle were put to the sword at the King Power Stadium.
The Magpies defence was cut open time after time, with Leicester running out 5-0 winners in the end.
And Newcastle’s players reportedly feel that Bruce shouldn’t have tinkered with their backline, which had just kept a clean sheet against Brighton & Hove Albion in their last match.
With the inquest over what went wrong ongoing at Newcastle, Lascelles is apparently set to tell Bruce where he went wrong in the squad’s eyes.
Whether Bruce will now revert back to a system which includes a three-man central defence remains to be seen.
Bruce promised attacking football when he came to Newcastle, but his plan has not materialised so far.
Newcastle are currently sat in 19th place in the Premier League table, with just one win to their name.
Bruce’s side’s next two fixtures come against Manchester United and Chelsea, in what looks set to be a really testing fortnight for them.
