Colback, who twice joined Ipswich Town on loan from Sunderland, has been frozen out by Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez.
Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback is wanted by Ipswich Town, the Sun reports on page 4 of its Goals pullout on Wednesday.
Colback has been informed by manager Rafa Benitez that he will not play again for Newcastle, the Mirror reported on Tuesday.
However, the report added that Colback is reluctant to move his family away from his native north east, and credited Newcastle’s local rivals Sunderland with interest in the 28-year-old.
That being said, a return to Sunderland, whom Colback controversially left for the Magpies three and a half years ago, could be difficult to be facilitate.
And while Ipswich could hardly be further from Newcastle, Colback may be open to a return to Portman Road having enjoyed two spells on loan there between 2009 and 2011.
Ipswich are currently without a number of central midfielders, including long-term injury victims Emyr Huws, Teddy Bishop and Andre Dozzell.
And Colback could return to Suffolk for a third loan spell, the Sun reports.
