Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote is expected to leave St. James’ Park in January.

According to a report in the Shields Gazette, Cheick Tiote is attracting interest from China, as he edges closer to the Newcastle United exit door.

Tiote’s time at St. James’ Park appears to be up, with Rafael Benitez deciding that the time has come to part ways with the Ivorian.

Tiote nearly left Newcastle last summer, but was given one more chance to force his way into the team.

However, six months’ later, Tiote has barely featured for the Magpies – and Newcastle are now prepared to allow the 30-year-old to move on.

Tiote is apparently attracting the attention of cash-rich Chinese clubs, who would be willing to offer him a sizeable wage packet to join.

Tiote has made just three appearances for Newcastle this season, with Benitez preferring other options in central midfield.

If Tiote does leave Newcastle it will bring to a close a seven year stay at St. James’ Park.

La Liga side Sporting Gijon have also been credited with an interest in Tiote in recent weeks.
