Newcastle United’s move for Alan Judge may not be finalised until January, reports Sky Sports.
Judge is yet to feature for the Bees in 2016-17, having suffered a double leg break towards the back end of last season.
And with the Republic of Ireland international not fit to play until the end of October at the earliest, according to Sky, he may struggle to pass a medical.
Newcastle had reportedly brought forward discussions in a bid to prevent rival clubs from muscling in. Burnley and Sheffield Wednesday were both linked with moves for Judge in January (Sky).
Should Judge’s transfer remain unfinalised beyond next week’s transfer deadline, Newcastle would be unable to add him to their squad until the winter window opens, unlike in previous years when the emergency loan deals could still be conducted between early September and late November.
Judge has established himself as one of the Championship’s standout performers over the past two campaigns, in which he has scored 17 league goals.
The 27-year-old began his career at Blackburn Rovers, to whom he returned briefly in 2013 following a spell at Newcastle’s nick-namesakes Notts County.
