Galatasaray rejected Newcastle United’s summer bid for Garry Rodrigues but the Super Lig giants cannot relax just yet.
Newcastle United are not yet ready to accept defeat in their pursuit of Galatasaray winger Garry Rodrigues. According to Turkish Football, The Magpies are preparing an improved offer after having a bid of £6 million rejected late in the summer transfer window.
It is understood that Newcastle will make an approach for the Cape Verde international either in January or at the end of the season after sending scouts to watch him during Galatasaray’s 3-1 win away at Osmanlispor in August, a game in which Rodrigues claimed an assist.
Newcastle will have to make an offer in excess of £6 million to convince Gala to part with a player they signed for half that amount as recently as January from Greek side PAOK.
Yet, with three assists in six Super Lig games already this season, the 24-time international could provide Newcastle will added creativity going forward – which could come in handy in the wake of results like Sunday’s dour 1-0 defeat at fellow newly promoted side Brighton and Hove Albion.
Rodrigues, a diminutive player standing at just 5ft 7ins, has enjoyed a nomadic career so far having represented the likes of Elche in Spain, ADO Den Haag in Holland and Levski Sofia in Bulgaria, where he scored a career-best 14 goals in 25 games in 2013/14.
He is renowned for his dribbling and crossing ability and, if he maintains his one-in-two assist ratio, could be well worth the money, even if they do have to wait until 2018 to bring him in.
