Leicester City want to recoup a lot of their £29 million, but Newcastle United are seemingly interested.
According to a report in The Mirror’s Transfer Zone (entry posted at 10:32 on August 25), Newcastle United are weighing up a late move for Leicester City’s Islam Slimani.
The Algeria international joined Leicester in a £29 million move last summer but failed to justify the club-record fee spent on him.
With the Foxes signing Kelechi Iheanacho, the 29-year-old’s first-team prospects look bleak and he could seek to leave the King Power Stadium before the window shuts next week.
And The Mirror claim that Newcastle are interested in the forward, but the Magpies would have to break the bank to get him as the report goes on to state that Leicester want to recoup a “big chunk” of that £29 million.
It remains to be seen whether Newcastle even have that sort of money available, with manager Rafael Benitez and owner Mike Ashley at loggerheads over financial resources.
The most United have spent this summer on one player was £12 million for Jacob Murphy, one of five players to join at the St James’s Park club in a permanent deal.
Slamini, in his defence, didn’t have a bad record last season, scoring seven Premier League goals in 13 starts and there is plenty of potential there for him to rescue his career in England’s top flight, if Leicester offload him.
