Newcastle United are interested in signing Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric, according to SuperDeporte.
Modric is out of contract at Madrid in the summer of 2022, and Newcastle want to sign the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder on a free transfer.
Spurs also want to re-sign the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner, but the 36-year-old prefers a move to Manchester City.
Luka Modric to Newcastle is unlikely
In our view, it is very unlikely that Modric will join Newcastle in the summer of 2022.
Yes, Newcastle now have wealthy owners, but we do not think that it will be enough to tempt the four-time Champions League winner to St. James’ Park.
Modric made be 36 now, but he is still at the top of his game.

We do not think that the former Tottenham midfielder will want to move to a Newcastle side who are unlikely to challenge for major honours next season.
Moreover, the Magpies are in danger of getting relegated from the Premier League at the end of the season.
Now, of course, we know that anything and everything is possible in football.
Remember when Robinho joined Manchester City from Madrid?
However, in our opinion, Modric to Newcastle is one transfer rumour that will not become transfer news.
