Newcastle United are reportedly keen on striker Mipo Odubeko.
According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United are one of the teams interested in signing Mipo Odubeko after he decided to leave Manchester United.
The Magpies are without a manager as things stand, and without last season’s two top goalscorers after losing Salomon Rondon and Ayoze Perez.
Whilst first-team signings have taken a back seat until the managerial situation is resolved, signings for the future may still be in mind – and a striker appears to be on their radar.
It’s believed that Newcastle and Burnley are looking to land Odubeko after choosing to leave Old Trafford, but there’s a rising probability that he joins a foreign club instead, with Bayern Munich, Feyenoord and Genoa keen.
The report noted that 16-year-old Odubeko hit 35 goals in the United youth ranks last season, but has now decided that his development will be improved away from the Red Devils.
The Irish teenager will have his pick of a host of clubs, but the ongoing chaos at Newcastle doesn’t exactly make them an appealing option for a young player looking for his big break.
Odubeko may well feel that heading to a club with no manager, little ambition and off-field tension isn’t exactly the best move, especially with more stable clubs in the race.
Newcastle should still pursue a move for the teenager, who would obviously be an exciting signing for the future, but there’s a strong chance that they miss out here, even with Odubeko choosing to leave.
