Benitez worked with Gulacsi during his younger years at Liverpool, and remains a fan of the Leipzig custodian.
Gulacsi was a key player for Leipzig last term, as they impressed in the Bundesliga.
The Hungarian stopper was very reliable, and Newcastle feel he would be an upgrade on the likes of Karl Darlow and Tim Krul.
If Gulacsi was to join Newcastle in the near future, he could become their fifth signing of the summer transfer window so far.
