Newcastle United want to sign Manchester City talent Shea Charles as they join Leeds United in the race for his signature.

The Magpies have made big splashes in the transfer market since their 2021 takeover.

Newcastle have also looked to add young talent as well though, placing a keen focus on their development setup.

The likes of Jude Smith, Alex Murphy, Jordan Hackett, Amadou Diallo and Charlie McArthur all joined Newcastle over the summer.

Newcastle now have another signing in mind as they fancy snapping up City talent Shea Charles.

The Daily Mail report that Newcastle are keen on Charles and are ‘monitoring developments’ over the teenager

Borussia Dortmund, Brentford and Leeds United are also understood to be interested in signing Charles.

Who is Newcastle United target Shea Charles?

Charles hails from Manchester and has been coming through the ranks with his local club.

Primarily a defensive midfielder, Charles has even featured as a central defender and as a right back.

Whilst Charles is waiting for his Premier League debut for City, he has already notched six caps for Northern Ireland on the international stage.

Charles qualifies for Northern Ireland through his mother and it looks like he will rack up caps for years to come.

Hailed for his ‘excellent’ passing range on City’s official website, Charles is considered to be a real talent.

Newcastle fancy adding Charles and maybe we shouldn’t be surprised by that.

The Magpies have added Paul Midgley as their head of youth recruitment having previously been a youth scout for Manchester City.

Newcastle are even adding Paul McLaren to their staff, with another City youth scout heading to St James’ Park.

Both Midgley and McLaren will know all about Charles from their time at the Etihad Stadium and we could see a summer move materialise.
