The Colombian international is said to have attracted the interest of Newcastle United.

Inter Milan's Jeison Murillo celebrates after scoring a third goal against Frosinone.

According to a report from Gazzette dello Sport, Newcastle United are among the clubs interested in signing Inter Milan defender Jeison Murillo this summer.

The 24-year-old has featured 69 times for the Serie A side, scoring three goals and providing two assists to date, but he struggled for game time in the final few months of the campaign and Inter are now said to be willing to cash in.

According to Gazzette dello Sport, Newcastle will have to pay somewhere between £10.3million and £12.9million for the centre-back, with Borussia Dortmund, Valencia and Monaco also believed to be monitoring the situation.

Murillo has a contract at the San Siro until the summer of 2020 but for a relatively cheap price Newcastle could get their hands on a solid defensive reinforcement yet to reach his peak.

The 25-capped Colombia international began his career at Udinese and also played for Granada, Cadiz and Las Palmas prior to his permanent switch to Inter in 2015.

Newcastle secured the Championship title in dramatic fashion yet despite the impressive squad assembled by manager Rafa Benitez, he will know the importance of strengthening in key areas, including the centre of defence.

Considering the calibre of sides in for the defender, and the promise of Champions League football if he makes the move elsewhere, Newcastle may be hard pressed to convince him that St. James’ Park is the best place for him to continue his career. But Benitez would be wise to try.
