Newcastle United are keen to bring in a new goalkeeper in the January transfer window.

According to a report in Portuguese newspaper Jornal de Noticias, Newcastle United are interested in signing Iker Casillas.

Newcastle are on the look out for a new goalkeeper in the January transfer window, as Rafael Benitez has been left unconvinced by his current options.

Both Karl Darlow and Rob Elliot have been given chances this season, but Benitez was an upgrade.

And Porto goalkeeper Casillas is believed to be on Benitez’s wishlist.

The experienced Spanish international worked with Benitez when they were at Real Madrid together earlier in their respective careers.

Casillas and Benitez have kept a good relationship since, and it is now suggested that a move to St. James’ Park could happen for the veteran in the near future.

If Casillas was to move to Newcastle it would be quite a coup for the Magpies, despite the Spaniard’s advancing years.

Newcastle are likely to need to their takeover to go through, if they are to have the funds to finance a move for Casillas.
