Newcastle United did want Harry Maguire, before his reputation soared at Leicester City.

Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez reportedly wanted Maguire back in 2017, after Hull City were relegated.
However, Newcastle wouldn’t back a move for the centre-back, as their scouts felt he wasn’t good enough to play at St. James’ Park.
That now has to go down as a massive error, as Maguire could have been a brilliant addition to Newcastle’s squad.
Maguire ended up at Leicester City, and since his move to the King Power Stadium his reputation has soared.
Maguire starred at the World Cup, where he was given a starting role for England, and he has begun the new campaign in good form.

Maguire even scored against Newcastle this weekend, as Leicester beat them 2-0 at St. James’ Park.
And Newcastle’s scouting team must be regretting not backing a move for the centre-back while they had a chance to sign him now.
