Newcastle United are reportedly set to offload defender Jesus Gamez.

According to The Chronicle, Newcastle United will release defender Jesus Gamez at the end of his contract this summer, bringing an end to his two-year stay at the club.
After suffering relegation to the Championship in 2016, Rafael Benitez attempted to rebuild his Newcastle squad, and made headlines with deals for the likes of Matt Ritchie and Dwight Gayle.

Benitez also managed to land a Champions League runner-up in Jesus Gamez, as the defender arrived on a free transfer from Atletico Madrid just weeks after the final against Real Madrid.
Gamez, now 32, was seen as a coup for Newcastle given his experience in Spain, but played just seven times last season as injuries took their toll on the full back.
The Spaniard has played just three times this season, and it now seems that Newcastle have made an early decision on his future ahead of his contract expiring this summer.

The Chronicle report that are planning to release Gamez at the end of the season, making him a free agent and able to move on elsewhere.
Newcastle may feel that Gamez’s experience – even when he wasn’t playing – was key to the club’s promotion back to the Premier League last season, but with just ten appearances to his name in total, the two-year deal hasn’t really paid dividends.
