Report: Newcastle United to make second offer for Alassane Plea, optimistic over transfer

Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez reportedly has decided to make Alassane Plea his top strike-target this summer.

According to the Northern Echo, Newcastle United are set to make another bid for Nice forward Alassane Plea, and they are confident of wrapping up a deal.

Newcastle’s first offer for the striker has been turned down by Nice, who value him at £27 million.

The report claims that Nice are in no mind to lower their asking price for the 25-year-old, who is attracting interest from a host of Premier League sides, but Newcastle are still optimistic that a transfer can be done.

Rafael Benitez has been searching for a new striker to add to his ranks at St. James’ Park, and has reportedly made Plea his first choice.

If Newcastle are to buy Plea, it looks almost certain that the transfer would break their record, which currently stands at the £16 million they paid for Micheal Owen back in 2006.

Plea hit 21 goals in 49 appearances across all competitions for Nice last term, and is now regarded as one of the finest strikers in French football.

Newcastle are now set to hold further discussions about signing the Nice forward in the near future, as they prepare to make an improved offer for him.

If Newcastle are able to sign Plea, the Northern Echo suggest that West Bromwich Albion’s Salomon Rondon could come on to their radar.
