Rafael Benitez was the man at Newcastle United who was pushing to sign West Bromwich Albion’s Salomon Rondon.

It was widely reported that Rafael Benitez was the man pushing for Newcastle to sign Rondon from West Brom, but the club wouldn’t sanction the deal.
However, even after Benitez’s departure at Newcastle, Rondon is said to still be on Newcastle’s wishlist.
Indeed, West Brom chief Luke Dowling has suggested that Newcastle want Rondon, even following Benitez’s departure.
“As we understand it Newcastle still have an interest in him,” he said to the Daily Star.
If Newcastle were to sign Rondon now, the transfer would surely be tinged with sadness for the St. James’ Park crowd.

Although Rondon would be a great addition to Newcastle’s squad, it was Benitez who was pushing so hard for the Venezuelan to be signed.
So if Newcastle did complete the transfer now, it would be severely frustrating and confusing for supporters.
