A local newspaper has claimed Newcastle United will search for new players despite not having a permanent manager.

The Northern Echo has reported that Newcastle United are keeping an eye on the transfer front as their search for a new manager goes on.

The Magpies have been without a permanent boss since Alan Pardew left the club to go and manage Crystal Palace down south.

The delay in appointing his successor created the logical threat the club could struggle to sign players in the current transfer window, but the Echo has suggested the club do have eyes on the market.

The paper claims that the club’s managing director Lee Charnley has held talks with the club’s chief scout over which players need to be brought into the first team setup.

It’s unclear where Newcastle will focus their attention in the transfer market and the appointment of a new boss would give a definitive direction in terms of transfers.

However, a new manager seems unlikely to arrive quickly and it should encourage fans that the club is looking to give caretaker boss John Carver options if he feels he needs them.
