Newcastle United currently sit second in the Championship table.

The Magpies are set to receive a boost with Rolando Aarons reportedly stepping up his recovery from injury, with a return to action expected in April, after initially being ruled out for the rest of the season, according to the Chronicle.

Rafa Benitez’ men relinquished top spot in the Championship table on Boxing Day after losing 1-0 at home to Sheffield Wednesday.

But there is some good news for Newcastle, with the Chronicle reporting that, after a successful operation in Italy, the 20-year-old winger could return to action this season.

The speedy winger ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in November, in what was seen as a big blow for Newcastle at the time.

Aarons, who has five caps for England at under-20 level, moved to St James’ Park in July 2014, after beginning his youth career at Bristol City, and he has gone on to make 22 appearances for the Magpies.

Luckily for Newcastle, they have what many people consider to be the strongest squad in the Championship, and have had plenty of options to choose from during Aarons’ absence.
