Newcastle United have set their sights on Bayer Leverkusen’s Kerem Demirbay, according to Sky Germany.
The Magpies are seemingly on the lookout for a new midfielder ahead of the 2023-24 season.
Newcastle are a bit short in the middle of the park and will likely want to bolster their ranks.

Eddie Howe even admitted he didn’t want Jonjo Shelvey to leave in January.
With that in mind, there will likely be plenty of midfield names doing the rounds in the coming months.
According to Sky Germany, via Sport Witness, Newcastle have ‘closely monitoring’ Demirbay.
The 29-year-old has a deal until 2024 and it looks as though a ‘transfer is likely’ in the next window.
The report adds that a fee of around €4-5million would be enough to take him away from Leverkusen.
With Newcastle now knocking on his door, it’s reported he could ‘imagine’ taking the next step in the summer.
Hertha Berlin and Fiorentina are also thought to be in the running for Demirbay.
Our view
Demirbay would be a decent shout for Newcastle. He is a high-quality, experienced option in the middle of the park.
The Bundesliga’s official website says Demirbay is “capable of befuddling opposition defenders and goalkeepers with his incisive left boot”, as well as praising his “pinpoint passing ability.”
Demirbay is available at a bargain price thanks to his £83,000-a-week contract only running until 2024.
In addition, he knows Joelinton well, having made 26 appearances alongside him at Hoffenheim (Transfermarkt).

All in all, Demirbay looks like a solid addition to the Newcastle ranks, and for a bargain price too.
