O Jogo have reported that Newcastle United are willing to meet Benfica’s valuation of Andreas Samaris.
The Portuguese outlet claims that Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez has identified the 28-year-old midfielder as his main target.
And O Jogo report that the Spanish manager is ready to make a £17.6 million offer for the defensive midfielder.
Bringing in Samaris would represent an excellent move and Magpies fans can finally start looking forward to further arrivals.
Benitez secured his first signing of the summer – not including Christian Atsu, who made his loan from Cheslea permanent last month – this week by signing Florian Lejeune.
But there’s no rest for the wicked and the former Liverpool boss will still be looking to add a striker to his ranks, having missed out on Tammy Abraham already.
It is United’s first season back in the Premier League after winning the Championship last season and the fate of their season will hinge on what Benitez does – or doesn’t do – over the next couple of months.
