Newcastle United are ready to meet Torino’s £8 million asking price for Afriyie Acquah, reports Ghana Soccernet.

Rafa Benitez is said to have been on adding Acquah to last season’s squad, and it seems the Magpies boss has maintained his interest in the 25-year-old midfielder.

Newcastle could face competition from Juventus for Acquah’s signature, however, although it is claimed Torino’s city rivals are set to offer €7 million – which works out around £2 million less than United’s planned bid.

The 18-cap Ghana international appeared 20 times in last season’s Serie A, scoring twice, and was previously on the books of Palermo, Parma, Hoffenheim and Sampdoria.

Newcastle are yet to replace Cheick Tiote after the Ivorian midfielder’s move to China, while Vurnon Anita’s potential departure would increase Benitez’s need for reinforcements in that department.

The Premier League newcomers have also been linked with a move for Acquah’s international teammate Frank Acheampong, who can play anywhere down the left-hand side [Dhnet.be].
