According to the Chronicle, Newcastle United have been offered the chance to sign Reading’s Danny Williams.
The report claims that the player’s agent has been pushed in the direction of a potential Newcastle switch, although the Magpies have yet to make an official approach for the midfielder.
Newcastle are looking to bolster their squad this summer following their relegation from the Premier League.
Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez
The news of Rafael Benitez staying on as manager was a big boost for the club, but it hasn’t stopped speculation circling around a few first-team stars such as Andros Townsend, Georginio Wijnaldum and Moussa Sissoko (as reported by The Northern Echo).
The Magpies could be forced into making some key changes to the first-team squad as they prepare for life in the Championship, and one player mooted as a potential arrival is Reading’s Williams.
The US international has just one year left on his contract with the Royals, and with no new deal in sight it appears the Berkshire club would prefer to sell now rather than risk losing him for free next summer.

Williams, 27, made 39 Championship appearances last season, scoring five goals and averaging an impressive 2.6 shots, 2.2 interceptions and 1.6 successful take-ons per league encounter.
The Chronicle claims that a number of clubs such as Aston Villa, Sunderland and Swansea City have been linked to the player, but it could ultimately be Newcastle who have the best chance of signing him.
