Newcastle United are keen on signing Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez as they with up another attacking addition.

Anybody watching Wednesday’s 5-1 thrashing of West Ham United probably thinks Newcastle don’t need more strikers.

Callum Wilson scored twice against the Hammers before substitute Alexander Isak added number four.

This comes after Isak caused mayhem against Manchester United and Wilson played the goalscoring substitute role.

Eddie Howe will ultimately want another hitman though having allowed Chris Wood to leave for Nottingham Forest.

La Razon in Mexico now claim that Newcastle are battling Brighton and Hove Albion for Santiago Gimenez.

The Feyenoord striker is a wanted man and Newcastle now appear to be keen on luring him to St James’ Park.

Who is Newcastle United target Santiago Gimenez?

Gimenez was actually born in Argentina but moved to Mexico at a very young age.

Now a fully-fledged Mexico international with 10 caps and two goals to his name, Gimenez is becoming a star.

Gimenez bagged 21 goals in 105 games for Cruz Azul, which may not sound all that impressive.

That was enough for Feyenoord to make their move last summer though, luring Gimenez over to Rotterdam.

Gimenez has been outstanding, smashing 17 goals in 36 games for Feyenoord.

Gimenez has been particularly prolific in the Europa League, scoring five times in seven games.

Those goals have been vital with Feyenoord closing in on the Eredivisie title and into the last eight of the Europa League.

Hailed as the ‘best striker’ in Dutch football by former AZ Alkmaar striker Kenneth Perez, Gimenez is now attracting huge interest.

Portuguese reporter Pedro Sepulveda claims that Benfica want Gimenez with an asking price of up to €25million (£22million) on his head.

Newcastle could now make their move though, potentially adding another talented goalscorer to Eddie Howe’s ranks.
