Newcastle United are keen on Blackburn Rovers defender Hayden Carter as Dan Ashworth chases more young talent.
That is according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Carter has popped onto the Newcastle radar.
The Magpies are allegedly keeping tabs on Carter’s development and could move for him in the near future.
The problem for Newcastle is that Carter only signed a new four-year contract with Blackburn back in March.
Rovers would now be in a position to command a high price for Carter – especially whilst knowing the money Newcastle have at their disposal.
Newcastle appear to be eyeing a double deal with Rovers having also targeted their teenage midfielder Adam Wharton.
That won’t come cheap but Dan Ashworth is now showing a keen interest in both Rovers talents.

Newcastle United may sign a defender amid Hayden Carter links
Newcastle already have a fairly settle centre back partnership with Sven Botman and Fabian Schar shining this season.
Yet with Jamaal Lascelles expected to leave this summer, Newcastle will surely need another right-footed centre back to compete with Schar.
Carter would fit the bill but has only played 42 Championship games in his career.
The 23-year-old has spent time out on loan in League One with Burton Albion and Portsmouth.
The latter loan spell really helped Carter and then-Pompey boss Danny Cowley hailed him as ‘excellent’.
Carter was born in Stockport and was actually quit Manchester City as a teenager before moving on to Blackburn.
That will have felt like the end of the Premier League dream for Carter but he could now land a top-flight chance – and grow into a defensive star for Eddie Howe and Newcastle.
