Newcastle United are closing in on the signing of Southampton defender Tino Livramento in a deal worth around £15million.

Southampton full back Tino Livramento is now a top target for Newcastle United with a deal moving in the right direction.

That is according to a report from The Telegraph, who claim that Newcastle are now in advanced talks to land Livramento.

It’s stated that Eddie Howe is keen to bring Livramento to St James’ Park and negotiations are ongoing.

A fee hasn’t yet been agreed but Newcastle could pay around £15million to lure Livramento to Tyneside.

The idea from Howe is that Livramento can become a vital squad player at Newcastle thanks to his versatility.

Livramento has played a right back and a left back in the past, meaning he can offer the versatility Howe is seeking.

The 20-year-old can now offer competition for both Kieran Trippier and Dan Burn – and his potential arrival doesn’t rule out another left back signing.

Livramento missed most of last season due to a major injury, making just two Premier League appearances as he managed 26 minutes in the final stages of the season.

Newcastle are banking on Livramento returning to his previous form once back fully fit and raring to go.

Spare a thought for Harrison Ashby as Newcastle target Tino Livramento

We can understand why Newcastle want Livramento.

The former Chelsea talent was hugely impressive in the 2021-22 campaign having joined Southampton for just £5million.

Quick and full of potential, Livramento could become a star at Newcastle if he can get back to his best.

Newcastle fans will love this deal but one Magpies talent may be a little confused and a tad frustrated.

Harrison Ashby joined Newcastle from West Ham United in January and the idea seemed similar.

A young right back with bags of potential who could eventually grow into becoming Kieran Trippier’s heir.

Yet just a few months on, Newcastle are trying to bring in another right-footed full back in Livramento.

Ashby is surely going out on loan this coming season; he can’t just be playing Under-23 football for another year.

Maybe Newcastle will want to move forward with both Livramento and Ashby in the years beyond Trippier, but the Scot may wonder if he will get the playing time he wants.
