Newcastle United are the only club interested in signing Duvan Zapata from Atalanta in the January transfer window, according to Calciomercato.

The report in the Italian news outlet has claimed that Newcastle are aware of lack of competition for the Colombia international striker.

And that is why the Premier League club are not willing to pay more than €12 million (£10.32 million) in transfer fees for the 31-year-old Atalanta striker.

Should Newcastle United bid for Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata?

In our opinion, there is no need for Newcastle United to make a bid for Atalanta and Colombia international striker Duvan Zapata in the January transfer window.

If the Magpies want to bring in a new striker in the middle of the season, then they should look at someone better and younger.

Zapata is 31 now and has had injury problems in recent years.

Newcastle’s best striker, Callum Wilson, has also had fitness issues.

Alexander Isak has been injured as well.

Chris Wood is 31.

We do not think that it would be a good move from Newcastle to bring in the 31-year-old Zapata, especially in the middle of the season.

After all, the striker would need some time to adapt to the Premier League after coming from Serie A and might not be able to hit the ground running at Newcastle.
