After securing their first victory of the 2017/18 Premier League campaign, Newcastle United must now turn their attention towards bolstering the squad in the remaining few days of the summer transfer window.

Signing a left-back is one of Rafa Benitez’ primary concerns, and it seems Newcastle United have found one hidden gem already.

According to Chronicle Live (Live blog, 16:56 pm) the Magpies are negotiating a deal for Argentine left-back Nicolas Tagliafico.

The newspaper have sourced highly-reliable journalist and Argentinian football writer Peter Coates, who claims that Newcastle are negotiating over a €4M (£3.70 million) move for the 24-year-old.

Tagliafico is a highly rated defender in Argentina, and getting him at that price would be nothing short of an excellent signing from the Magpies.

La Liga outfit Sevilla are also interested in signing the Argentine, but they’ll have to shift their focus elsewhere.

Nicolas Tagliafico of Argentina passes the ball during the Brazil Global Tour match between Brazil and Argentina at Melbourne Cricket Ground on June 9, 2017 in Melbourne, Australia.

To add weight to the story, the player’s agent, Ricardo Schlieper has confirmed interest from the Magpies.

According to Estadio Deportivo, when Schlieper was asked whether Tagliafico would end up at Sánchez-Pizjuán, he said “there’s an alternative in Newcastle”.
