Championship leaders Newcastle United have entered the running for Snodgrass – and could have the upper hand on rivals suitors Sunderland, Middlesbrough and West Ham United.

Newcastle United are the latest club to be linked with a move for Hull City winger Robert Snodgrass, according to the Guardian.

Snodgrass has rejected a new contract at the KCOM Stadium and is said to be eyeing a January exit, despite his current deal expiring in June. The 29-year-old has been the Tigers’ standout performer this season, scoring five goals and assisting another two in 16 Premier League outings – and his list of reported suitors is unsurprisingly not short.

As reported by the Daily Record on Wednesday, Sunderland, Middlesbrough and West Ham United are all tracking Snodgrass, along with Championship side Aston Villa.

However, according to the Guardian, Hull are reluctant to sell to a relegation rival – a boost, perhaps, for Newcastle United.

As reported by the Chronicle on Tuesday, Rafa Benitez’s side are looking to add another winger to their ranks in January, and the drop down a division is unlikely to deter Snodgrass given the Magpies’ position at the top of the second tier.

With a nine-point gap between themselves and third place, Newcastle appear destined to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking – and could potentially leapfrog three of Hull, Sunderland, Middlesbrough and West Ham in doing so.

HITC sources understand that Hull retain the option to exercise a one-year extension, however the Guardian‘s report states: “The winger does not seem keen on being taken down that route. It may eventually be decided that it is in everyone’s best interests for him to leave, with the transfer fee reinvested on players.”

It adds that Snodgrass could cost around £4 million, which should not be a problem for Newcastle United, who, according to the Chronicle, turned a £31.2 million profit in the summer transfer.
