He faces stiff competition to get into the Newcastle first-team next season though with manager Rafa Benitez continuing to improve his defence this summer.

The Spaniard has already added Grant Hanley, while Isaac Hayden could also be deployed at the back if needed.
There is also competition from his fellow youth prospects, with Jamie Sterry in particular enjoying a run of games during pre-season.
And according to the Chronicle that could lead to the Magpies making Mbabu available for loan this summer.
They report that a number of Championship clubs could be interested in taking him, with a loan deal a possibility later in the transfer window.

The decision is likely to be dependant on the whether Benitez brings any more defenders to the club in the remainder of the transfer window.
The defence was a particular weak point last season and Benitez is likely to be keen to add further recruits, which could push Mbabu closer to an exit, if only on a temporary basis.
