Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez is yet to resolve his future at the club as his current deal is coming to an end.
Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez has been offered £12 million a year to take charge of Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifan, according to a report.
The Times have claimed that Newcastle were dealt a blow in regards to Benitez’s future because his current deal at St James’ Park is due to expire at the end of this month, and now there is interest on the horizon.
It is said that Benitez has been a target for clubs in China for some while now and if he accepts the offer made by Dalian Yifan then he would become the highest paid manager in the Chinese Super League.
During the recently concluded campaign, the Spaniard guided the North East outfit to a 13th-placed finish as his three-year reign at St James’ Park could be coming to an end.
Once again, the start of the summer has been dominated by talk that Newcastle could be taken over by [insert company] name, but nothing has materialised and Mike Ashley still remains in charge.
The retail businessman’s reluctance to show ambition in the transfer market has resulted in Newcastle finding themselves in this current situation with Benitez.
The Times report does state that Benitez has been offered a one-year contract by the club, but they are unable to agree terms with problems surfacing in regards to how his transfer budget is going to be spent.
It would be a surprise if Benitez did opt to move to the Chinese Super League because he still has the capabilities of managing in any top-tier in Europe.
But if he is not sitting in the St James’ Park dugout for the start of the new season in August then the tensions between the Newcastle fans and their current owner will only increase.
