Newcastle United are interested in both Everton’s James McCarthy and Gerard Deulofeu.
According to a report in the Chronicle, Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez rates Everton midfielder James McCarthy very highly.
Newcastle have made an enquiry to Everton about McCarthy’s availability in the January transfer window.
The Republic of Ireland international appeared to be out of favour at the start of the season, but he has managed to force his way back into Everton’s first-team recently.
McCarthy is currently out with injury, but Newcastle remain interested in taking the combative midfielder.
Newcastle also have an interest in out-of-favour Toffees winger Gerard Deulofeu, but the Chronicle suggest that a transfer is not particularly likely.
AC Milan are also interested in Deulofeu, and Newcastle realise that the Spaniard may prefer a move to Serie A.
Newcastle are determined to add players in the January transfer window, as Benitez aims to strengthen their promotion bid.
The Magpies are currently in second place in the Championship table, but have lost four of their last eight games.
