Denis Petric has barely featured for Angers in Ligue 1 but has still been linked with a surprise move to Newcastle United.

Rafael Benitez had hoped to get a new goalkeeper in place at Newcastle United at the start of the new Premier League season. A month later, however, The Magpies are still relying on Rob Elliot between the sticks.
And reports in Ouest France that the club have identified yet another potential goalkeeping target will only add to the accusation that they are somewhat scraping the barrel this late in the transfer window.
The report claims that Denis Petric is something of a left-field target for The Magpies. After all, he was third choice at Ligue 1 strugglers Angers last season, playing just two league games for the club since arriving from Troyes in January 2016.

Yet, with Angers willing to sell Petric permanently or let him leave on loan, the report states that Newcastle and Bristol City have made their interest known.
The former Serbian Under-21 international is also 29 years of age, meaning a deal would certainly raise plenty of eyebrows on Tyneside.

This latest transfer rumour comes after Tuttomercatoweb reported that Premier League rivals Watford are closing in on a deal to sign Udinese’s Orestis Karnezis, despite Newcastle making a bid for the Greek international earlier in the week.
Petric, who has never played outside of France, is unlikely to represent much of an improvement on Rob Elliot, Karl Darlow or Tim Krul based on his lack of action for one of Ligue 1’s weaker sides.
