Newcastle United were linked with a move for Hernandez last summer, but he eventually singed for West Ham United.

Newcastle United were linked with a move for West Ham United striker Diafra Sakho earlier this month.
Sakho, though, is not the only Hammers front man said to have had interest from Rafa Benitez – who was also tentatively keen on Javier Hernandez, according to the Chronicle.

The report adds, however, that the Newcastle manager ‘does not envisage any significant direct transfers between bottom-half clubs taking place before next Wednesday’s deadline’ – including that of Magpies midfielder Jonjo Shelvey, who has been linked with a move to West Ham.
It is claimed that Newcastle do not want to sell Shelvey, and will ‘resist all attempts’ from the Hammers to prise him away this month.

The Magpies were also credited with interest in Hernandez during the summer transfer window, but the Mexican eventually signed for West Ham in a £16 million deal [Transfermarkt].
Hernandez has only started 12 league games for David Moyes side’, however – in which he has still scored five goals – and his agent told Fox Sports this week that the 29-year-old is open to leaving the London Stadium.
Newcastle have, however, made a bid for Feyenoord striker Nicolai Jorgensen in the meantime [Sky Sports].
