Newcastle United appear to have taken a step closer to signing Isaac Kiese Thelin from Anderlecht.

Newcastle have wanted a new number nine all summer, but appear to have missed out on Salomon Rondon from West Bromwich Albion.
Rondon was one of Rafael Benitez’s top targets, but Thelin has now seemingly emerged on their radar.
Newcastle’s bid is £4.4 million, and it would be hard to argue that signing the 26-year-old would be showing ambition.
Thelin has scored just 57 goals in 224 league appearances across Sweden, France and Belgium and doesn’t look up to cutting in the Premier League.

Newcastle would only be accused of going for the cheap option again, if Thelin was brought in over Rondon.
And with Mike Ashley already facing a backlash over Newcastle’s failure to spend this summer, bringing in Thelin does not look like an advisable move.
