Newcastle United broke their transfer record during the summer transfer window.

Newcastle spent a sizeable amount of money during the summer, with Joelinton and Allan Saint-Maximin both arriving for big fees.
But it seems that Steve Bruce will be backed with further funds in the new year to strengthen his squad.
Newcastle are said to be planning on making at least one addition already, although the budget is likely to depend on where they are in the Premier League table.
The Magpies will not want to gamble on their financial security by spending big if Bruce’s side are in the relegation zone, but if they are safe from danger Newcastle could look to invest.
The Chronicle suggest that a central midfielder and a forward are the positions where Bruce feels that additions are needed, with the utilisation of a loan signing still possible.

The big question for Bruce is whether Newcastle will be far enough away from danger to be able to spend.
The Magpies have started the season in mixed fashion, and currently sit in 14th place in the Premier League table.
Newcastle looked awful in the first two weeks of the campaign, but they have improved more recently and a victory over Tottenham Hotspur was highly impressive.
Bruce’s men are next in action against Liverpool at the weekend.
