Newcastle United have been impressed with Renan Lodi as they consider launching a move for the Nottingham Forest loanee.

Renan Lodi remains a real consideration for Newcastle United with Nottingham Forest’s purchase option now expired according to 90Min.

It’s stated that Forest did have the option to buy Lodi from Atletico Madrid for £25million.

However, that option has allegedly expired and Forest must now renegotiate with Atletico.

Forest would like to keep Lodi but the door is now open for other clubs to swoop in – such as Newcastle United.

It’s claimed that Newcastle have been impressed with Lodi this season and could now move to sign him.

Newcastle have qualified for the Champions League and Eddie Howe will have plenty of cash to spend this summer.

A new left back could be on the radar; Dan Burn has played well there this season but Matt Targett has struggled with injuries.

The common rumour has surrounded Kieran Tierney and a possible move from Arsenal to Newcastle.

The Mirror (26/02, p71) reported that Tierney was open to signing for Newcastle and who can blame him?

Even with Oleksandr Zinchenko out for Arsenal on Saturday, Mikel Arteta still found a way to leave Tierney out.

The Scot needs first-team action and it just hasn’t been given to him at Arsenal this season.

The Times even reported last week that Tierney is now thoroughly expected to sign for Newcastle this summer.

Newcastle could have other irons in the fire though, such as Lodi.

The Brazilian has fared well for Forest, recording 25 Premier League starts to help Steve Cooper’s men stay up.

What’s interesting is that Lodi is very close with Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes.

The pair turned out 38 times together with Athletico Paranaense back in Brazil, suffering defeat just eight times.

Bruno then talked about reuniting with Lodi with Atletico Madrid in 2019 whilst admitting that they talk a lot.

If Newcastle come calling, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Lodi pick them over Forest – and possibly leave Tierney gutted at missing out on an ideal escape route.
