Manchester United first-team coach Michael Carrick is reportedly on the radar of Newcastle United.

Benitez is out of contract at Newcastle in the summer of 2019, and the former Liverpool manager has yet to sign a new contract with the Premier League.
It has been reported by TEAMtalk that former United and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Carrick is on the radar of the Magpies.
Good plan?
While it does make sense for Newcastle to make contingency plan should Benitez decide not to sign a new contract with the Magpies, Carrick does not really appear to be a great option.

Unless serious investment is made in the squad in the summer of 2019, the Magpies are likely to be fighting for survival in the Premier League next season, if indeed they are still in the top flight of English football.
Will Carrick be able to keep Newcastle up? It would be a massive risk for the Magpies if they were to appoint the former United star as their manager in the summer of 2019.
