Newcastle United are interested in signing Chris Gloster from PSV in the summer of 2021, according to The Chronicle.

It has been reported that Newcastle wanted to sign the 20-year-old left-back in the January transfer window, but new Brexit rules prevented them from doing so.

The youngster was available in January and Newcastle scouts were impressed by him, according to the report, which has added that the Premier League club will continue to monitoring the USA Under-23 international.

How good is Chris Gloster?

Gloster progressed well at Hannover in Germany and played for their second team during the 2018-19 season before making the move to PSV in the summer of 2019.

PSV’s official website described the youngster as “a dynamic attacking left back”, with the Dutch club’s director of football John de Jong saying that the American is “known for his steady defensive work and lunges forward to join the attack on every opportunity available”.

The left-back is clearly very talented, but the problem is that he has yet to break into the PSV first team.

Gloster is a player for the future and should not be expected to make an immediate impact in the team.

If Newcastle do manage to sign the American in the summer of 2021, then it is very likely that he could go into the Under-23 team initially.
