Newcastle United are interested in a potential double deal to sign Atalanta duo Joakim Maehle and Rasmus Hojlund.

That is according to a report from 90Min, who claim that Newcastle want both players.

It’s suggested that Atalanta striker Hojlund is ‘emerging as a summer target’ for Newcastle.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are all thought to be interested but Newcastle are right there alongside them.

Newcastle’s interest in signing Hojlund actually goes back to before he even joined Atalanta.

The Athletic reported in August that Newcastle were tracking Hojlund, who was then playing for Sturm Graz.

Hojlund had only been with the Austrian club for a few months but Atalanta saw the potential and snapped him up.

Newcastle appear to have maintained their interested in Hojlund, who has been shining this season.

Hojlund has hit eight goals in 29 games in his first season at Atalanta, after smashing 12 goals in 21 Sturm Graz appearances.

The 20-year-old has also become a superstar for Denmark, scoring five times in his last two caps for his country.

Newcastle United also want Rasmus Hojlund’s teammate Joakim Maehle

The report also notes that Newcastle fancy signing Joakim Maehle.

Hojlund and Maehle not only play together for Atalanta but also Denmark.

The prospect of landing both players may really appeal to Newcastle and the players themselves may well fancy leaving together.

Maehle, 25, thrived with AaB and Genk before heading to Atalanta in 2021.

Maehle then became a star at the European Championships and remains a quality full back.

Capable of playing at both left and right back, Maehle would offer great versatility to Eddie Howe.

Signing both players won’t be cheap and Atalanta will certainly demand a huge price.

Still, Newcastle will have money to play with this summer and could engineer a double swoop on Atalanta.
