According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United are expected to offer £12million in a bid to sign Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala this summer.
The Magpies have already tied up one transfer since winning promotion back to the Premier League, as winger Christian Atsu has penned a permanent deal following a successful loan spell from Chelsea.

Now, manager Rafael Benitez will look to strengthen other areas of his team, with centre back one possible area for improvement given the lingering question marks over Grant Hanley’s future, having failed to impress since joining from Blackburn Rovers.
Whilst Benitez does have Jamaal Lascelles, Ciaran Clark and Chancel Mbemba at his disposal, the Daily Mail now claim that Newcastle are expected to make a £12million bid to sign Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala.

Mangala, 26, was a big-money signing for City in 2014 having excelled with Porto, but he struggled to live up to his exorbitant price tag, and after two disappointing seasons at the Etihad Stadium, he was farmed out on loan to Valencia last summer.
The French international has featured regularly for Benitez’s former club this term, making 30 appearances whilst scoring two goals, and Valencia could yet push to land him on a permanent basis.

Now though, Newcastle are allegedly hoping to swoop in with a £12million bid, a mere fraction of the £32million City allegedly paid for Mangala just three years ago (BBC).
Mangala could fancy another crack at Premier League football having struggled with City, and Benitez may believe that he can finally get the best out of Mangala at St. James’ Park.
