Newcastle United could use their relationship with Chelsea to sign former target Kurt Zouma, the Chronicle reports.

The Magpies, whose manager Rafa Benitez used to manage the Premier League champions, recently signed Chelsea’s Christian Atsu on a permanent basis – and there could be more where the Ghanaian came from.

It is claimed Newcastle are “in prime position” to land any player the Blues are willing to loan out, with talks over a season-long deal for striker Tammy Abraham said to have already commenced.

But with Benitez also in the market for centre-backs this summer, Zouma is “another worth watching” according to the Chronicle.

The Frenchman, who it is claimed was a Newcastle target during his Saint-Etienne days, has barely featured over the past 18 months after suffering a cruciate ligament injury.

One obstacle facing Newcastle if they are to pursue deals for Abraham and Zouma is the rule which stipulates that a Premier League club cannot simultaneously loan more than one player from a divisional rival.
