Newcastle United are currently looking for a replacement for Rafael Benitez.
According to the Daily Mail, Arsene Wenger could be targeted as an ambitious appointment by Newcastle United.
Some sources close to the club have suggested that Newcastle could go after the former Arsenal boss, as they seek a replacement for Rafael Benitez.
The Spanish manager’s departure from Newcastle was announced yesterday, much to the frustration of supporters.
Benitez could not agree terms with Newcastle’s board to stay on, as he wanted far greater control over transfers, among other things.
The Magpies are reportedly hopeful that they may be able to persuade Wenger into coming though.
If Wenger was to arrive at St. James’ Park it wouldn’t kill the disappointment of Benitez’s departure, but his arrival would be a source for celebration.
Wenger is one of the few managers with an even more glistening CV than Benitez and he would be a wonderful appointment.
However, it seems unlikely that Wenger would be tempted by the Newcastle job with things as they are currently.
Newcastle are not looking to waste time with whoever they appoint next, as Lee Charnley has been given a fortnight to find Benitez’s successor.
