According to a report in the Chronicle, Newcastle United could make a deadline day move for Richmond Boakye of Red Star Belgrade.

Newcastle have been searching for a new front man for much of the month so far, but they have been unable to get a deal over the line.

Newcastle have gone for Nicolai Jorgensen, Danny Ings, Daniel Sturridge and Islam Slimani, but they have failed in all their pursuits.

Mike Ashley and Rafael Benitez have now held discussions over who Newcastle should go after next, and Boakye is said to be under consideration.

The Magpies have been told Boakye will cost £4 million by Belgrade, which puts him in their budget.

Boakye’s scoring form this season has been highly impressive.

The Ghanian has hit 23 goals in 28 games across all competitions, so would arrive at St. James’ Park full of confidence.

Newcastle’s top goalscorers are currently Joselu and Ayoze Perez, who have just four goals to their names.
