According to a report in the Northern Echo, Brighton & Hove Albion could sneak in ahead of Newcastle United to sign Tammy Abraham.

Brighton and Newcastle have been competing for the Chelsea striker’s signature for much of the summer so far.

It was expected that Newcastle had won the race to sign the 19-year-old on loan for the season.

However, that deal is now in doubt, as Chris Hughton’s side have made a last ditch attempt to bring the youngster to the south coast.

Brighton’s bid is understood to be worth more money than Newcastle, and Rafael Benitez’s side could now miss out.

The Seagulls are expected to hold further discussions with Abraham in the next three days, as the transfer saga goes on.

Abraham netted 26 goals for Bristol City over the past season, and is seemingly ready to take the step up to play in the Premier League.
