According to a report in the Daily Express, Newcastle United could revive a deal to bring Crystal Palace’s Andros Townsend back to St. James’ Park, when their takeover bid goes through.

Amanda Staveley is currently in the process of bidding to buy Newcastle, and if she does take charge then Rafael Benitez is set to be handed with an increase in funds for the January transfer window.

Benitez has been left frustrated with Newcastle’s failure to land many of his top targets since taking charge, and Townsend is a player who has consistently been on his wishlist.

Townsend had the most productive time of his career at Newcastle, but only stayed for six months after the North East club were relegated.

Newcastle have attempted on numerous occasions to bring Townsend back since, but they have failed with every bid they have made so far.

However, Newcastle have reportedly still not given up hope – with Benitez eyeing a move for the England international.

Palace are said to be considering selling Townsend, as Roy Hodgson wants the money to buy a new striker to improve his toothless attack, with his side struggling for goals.

Newcastle are currently comfortably ahead of Palace in the Premier League standings, with Benitez’s side making an excellent start to the new campaign.
