According to the Chronicle, Giovanni van Bronckhorst is now being considered by Newcastle United.

Newcastle are still searching for a replacement for Rafael Benitez, and a number of their leading candidates appear to have no interest in moving to St. James’ Park.

Newcastle are now said to be assessing the credentials of Van Bronckhorst, who is known to be interested in taking over on Tyneside.

The Dutch boss’s agent Guido Albers has told the Chronicle that Van Bronckhorst would speak to Newcastle about taking over.

“What we would say if a club like Newcastle has an opportunity to work for them then of course he would be interested in doing that,” he said.

“It is an amazing club with an amazing fanbase but it’s up to them who they decide to go for.”

Van Bronckhorst’s past managerial experience has seen him take charge at Feyenoord, where he spent four years at the helm.

The 44-year-old took Feyenoord to the league title in 2016/17, and also won them two cups during his time in the dugout.

If he was to move to Newcastle he would have a tough job though.

There is a real feeling of discontent around St. James’ Park following the departure of Benitez, who was so popular among the fan base.
