According to the Chronicle, Newcastle United’s players were not given instructions to sit back against Wolverhampton Wanderers by Steve Bruce yesterday.

Newcastle took the lead against Wolves after Jamaal Lascelles headed them in front in the first-half.

However, Newcastle looked more intent on protecting their lead in the second period, rather than looking to extend it.

The Magpies camped back inside their own half, as Wolves took more and more of a stranglehold over the match.

In the end Nuno’s side merited their equaliser, with Jonny Otto finishing well after a mistake from Martin Dubravka.

But Bruce was reportedly left frustrated with his side, as they were not under instruction to sit back.

Bruce had wanted Newcastle to continue playing with some attacking intent, but they had very few efforts in the second-half.

Newcastle’s failure to hold on to the three points against Wolves has caused further frustration around St. James’ Park.

Newcastle are currently in 17th place in the Premier League table, with their next match coming away against West Ham United.
