Ciaran Clark looked set to leave St. James’ Park, but it seems that he will stay at Newcastle United now.

However, the Spanish boss appears to have had a change of heart after Clark has put in a number of credible performances for the Magpies in recent times.
Clark has been called into Newcastle’s defence on a number of occasions of late, and the 29-year-old has been solid.

Newcastle have suffered badly with injuries, but Clark has proven to be a very valuable squad player.
Benitez is now keen to keep hold of the Republic of Ireland international and it seems that he will stay at St. James’ Park until the end of the season, at the very least.
Newcastle have not been able to make the additions they wanted so far in January, so retaining his current squad has now become Benitez’s priority this month.
