Rafael Benitez will try to convince Moussa Sissoko to stay put at St. James’ Park, according to reports from the Chronicle.
Rafael Benitez has delivered a huge boost to Newcastle United after signing a new contract and the Spaniard’s decision to stay put at St. James’ Park is expected to convince many of the current crop of players to do the same.
However, some are not too keen on playing in the Championship and it is believed that midfielder Moussa Sissoko is one of the players eyeing an exit from Newcastle this summer, with Arsenal said to be interested in his services.
Sissoko has been dropping hints over the past few seasons that he would like to play in the Champions League and Newcastle would surely find it difficult to stop the French international from leaving, given that they are no longer a Premier League outfit.
While it seems like Newcastle are certain to lose Sissoko, the Chronicle report that Benitez has not given up on his hopes of convincing the 26-year-old to remain at St. James’ Park.
The reports claim that Benitez, who handed Sissoko the captaincy, views the midfielder as an integral part of his plans for next season and will be holding talks soon in order to change the mind of the former Toulouse star.
