Cardiff City, Rotherham United and Wigan Athletic are the trio thought to have approached Newcastle United regarding the fit-again 30-year-old.
Newcastle United have received loan offers from three Championship clubs for fit-again goalkeeper Rob Elliot, according to the Irish Sun.
Cardiff City, Rotherham United and Wigan Athletic are the trio in question, although two have landed alternative targets in the meantime, with Hull’s Allan McGregor heading to Wales on loan and Bristol City’s Richard O’Donnell returning to his native South Yorkshire on a full-time deal.
And though Wigan have yet to fill their own goalkeeping void, it appears that Elliot will remain on Tyneside for the foreseeable future.
Newcastle United’s Rob Elliot
“Rob Elliot, I am happy with him. He has to keep playing with Under-23s to keep his fitness,” Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez told the Chronicle on Friday.
The 30-year-old has fallen behind Karl Darlow and summer recruit Matz Sels in the Magpies pecking order, having suffered a cruciate ligament injury last March. And, according to the Irish Sun, a number of ‘big Championship clubs’ are weighing up summer moves.
It adds that while Elliot is unlikely to make any snap decisions, he could look to leave St James’ Park in order to regain his Republic of Ireland place from West Ham United man, Darren Randolph.
Newcastle’s Tim Krul is struggling for game time at Ajax
Elliot looks set to have Tim Krul for company in the summer, although Benitez has confirmed the Dutchman will not be recalled early from his Ajax loan spell.
Should Newcastle United send Elliot out on loan this month?
